Rideshare services like Lyft offer convenience, but accidents involving these drivers are increasingly common in Las Vegas. Whether it’s a distracted Lyft driver, a negligent third-party motorist, or a poorly maintained vehicle, the consequences of a collision can be serious.
If you’ve been hurt in one of these incidents, a Las Vegas Lyft accident lawyer can help you understand your legal options and pursue full compensation.
At Shook & Stone Injury Lawyers, we’ve been representing injured Nevadans for over two decades. As a trusted Las Vegas rideshare accident lawyer, our firm knows how to handle the unique complexities that come with rideshare cases, and we’re ready to help you get back on your feet.
Who Is Liable After a Lyft Accident in Las Vegas?
Establishing liability in a Lyft-related crash requires careful investigation. Unlike traditional car accidents, rideshare incidents often involve multiple parties and overlapping insurance coverage. That makes it essential to have legal guidance from a qualified Las Vegas car accident lawyer.
In a Lyft accident, liability may fall on:
- The Lyft driver: If they were distracted, speeding, or otherwise negligent
- Another motorist: If a third party caused the crash
- The rideshare company: Under certain conditions where they failed to act responsibly
- A vehicle manufacturer: If a defect contributed to the crash
- A city or agency: If unsafe road conditions or missing signage played a role
Rideshare insurance policies can be confusing, but we know how to determine which policy applies and how much coverage is available based on the driver’s status at the time of the crash.
Common Injuries from Lyft Collisions
Rideshare passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers are all vulnerable in a Lyft crash. Victims may face significant medical needs, lost income, and a long recovery, especially without immediate legal support from a Las Vegas personal injury lawyer.
Injuries we frequently handle in Lyft cases include:
- Traumatic brain injuries: Caused by impact or sudden deceleration
- Spinal cord injuries: Potentially resulting in long-term disability
- Broken bones: Requiring surgery, casting, or extensive physical therapy
- Soft tissue damage: Including whiplash, sprains, and strains
- Emotional trauma: Such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression following the crash
Our team works with medical professionals and specialists to fully document your injuries, estimate future care costs, and build a claim that reflects the true impact on your life.
How Lyft’s Insurance Coverage Works
One of the most complex aspects of a Lyft accident is understanding which of Lyft’s insurance policy applies—and when. Lyft drivers are not company employees, but the platform does offer a tiered coverage model based on the driver’s activity at the time of the accident.
Here’s how Lyft’s insurance typically applies:
- Driver is offline: Their personal insurance policy is the only coverage available
- App is on, but no ride accepted: Lyft provides limited liability coverage
- Ride accepted or passenger onboard: Lyft’s $1 million liability policy is active
As your Las Vegas Lyft accident attorney, we identify the exact status of the driver and work to obtain every piece of data—ride logs, app status, insurance filings—that may affect your claim.
